Forty years of working in the chemical industry taught me that its challenges are never ending. Whether it’s implementing a new regulation, overseeing environmental, health, safety and security, or finding new customers and marketplaces, this industry is as demanding as it is exciting and rewarding.

Along the way, I learned that SOCMA is an invaluable resource for the specialty, batch and custom chemical industry. SOCMA’s programs and services are specifically designed to meet the needs of its members because members drive the agenda. You won’t find “inside the Beltway” thinking or a top-down mentality here because, above all, SOCMA listens.

Joe Acker, SOCMA President

Joe Acker was appointed president of SOCMA in March 2003. Prior to assuming that post he served as chairman of SOCMA’s Board of Governors. His vast industry experience includes executive positions with DanChem Technologies, Hickson DanChem Corporation, FMC Corporation and Merck & Company.

Mr. Acker holds a BCh.E. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Bucknell University.
